Day seven of the Fast-5 diet.
Others explain it better than I would (see links above).
I keep a mental countdown of the hours to go before I eat. It's more mental hunger than physical hunger. At first I had a constant inner dialogue: "How many hours to go? I can't believe I'm doing this. Do I feel hungry? Am I feeling weak?" That constant train of thought is starting to go away, thank goodness, as I begin to trust that I am in fact fine.
I realize that after a large, late meal (10pm) I still feel full through early afternoon the next day. Not just "not-hungry," but actually "full."
I've decided to only weigh myself on my home scale, for the sake of continuity, but I'm rarely home these days because of work and travel. I weighed myself on day four and was down 3 pounds.
My running (barefoot) is also going well. My first 10k is this Sunday. :)

Some days I do better than others about clock watching. Busier days are easier, and in general, the longer I do it, the less attention I pay to the time. Today my stomach growled as if on cue, and sure enough, it was time to break my fast. The human body is an amazing thing.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see another IF blogger!
Thank you Amy! Your body knows better than mine does -- mine still growls mid-afternoon.

Thanks for sharing! I'm wishing you the best of luck on your Fast-5 journey. I'm currently doing a 10-day water fast (I'm new to fasting) and I'm going to follow it by doing the Fast-5 plan.
ReplyDeleteI'm also a longtime runner, but I currently have a metatarsal stress fracture in my foot. Boo. I'm actually suspicious of barefoot running being the culprit (but I wasn't doing TRUE barefoot running, rather running in the Nike Free shoe). I think I injured myself because I went too far, too soon. I'm sure you'll be fine if you ramp up mileage slowly and avoid running in Nike Free, but rather run true barefoot (or with Vibram Five-Fingers). Just watch for any pain in the top of your foot. Good luck! I look forward to your updates!
